Now they have to think about management information and will have to ensure that they are entering certain details onto the database to enable senior managers to run their monthly reports. For some doctors this is an unacceptable transformation of their old jobs and some decide that the best course would be to change career. Whilst doctors are in demand, most careers and job search engine offers require applicants from all backgrounds and professions to be proficient with the use of computers. The medical profession particularly has developed in a way that the use of computing has become essential.

However to change career because you fear a machine is just irresponsible. The computer is just part of the modern age and not one, including the medical profession, can ignore it. Doctors will continuously have their skills upgraded and tested to ensure that they meet with the demands of modern life. Computing will be one of the key areas that they need to address. In this new climate of e-government, a doctor can no longer rely on the relative safety of their old practice.

Getting with the medical program
Computers have penetrated the medical profession particularly where administration is concerned. These days’ doctors are expected to do a lot of their administrative work. If this was to be done manually, there would be very limited time for actual clinical time.

Therefore it was decided that the profession could benefit from a technology update that specifically addressed the issues of speed and accuracy. That means that we would have electronic prescriptions and monthly updates by phone.  People may complain that it is impersonal but I believe that it is certainly efficient.

The case of the United States of America is interesting. One of the things that Barack Obama has promised to address is the excessive bureaucracy that we see being practiced across various sectors of the American health care system.

One of the telling solutions that have been proposed is the use of computing to reduce costs. Apparently when a patient transfers from one health facility to another, a lot of resources are wasted on paperwork. It is therefore anticipated that if they move to a paperless system, there will be less scope for bureaucracy to take a hold.

Now if you are a doctor in the United States of America and you fail to take advantage of the training in computing, you will almost certainly be left behind when the new changes come into play. Your bosses might even begin to have second thoughts as to whether you are the type of employee that they need in a modernizing organization if you are not willing to make any compromises to new technology.

That is why people begin to wonder why they are being laid off when really one of the problems that they have is inflexibility in their approach to work and new technology. Embracing technology is not too difficult but the rewards can be great thus I would heartily advise anyone in the medical profession to take all opportunities to improve their computing skills.
