Computing Literacy in Modern L...

Finding a language with which to teach and learn I have a feeling that computing has concentrated on modern languages as a means of learning. This is part of the cultural imperialism that started in the nineteenth century. In short people have to first learn modern languages before they can learn the mechanics of computing. This appears to me to be fundamentally wrong because it excludes people who may not have modern language skills but they do indeed have the will and the desire to excel in computing. Anything that limits the number of people who have a skill is not a welcome development. To this end I have come up with some of the ways in which the computing community can provide a platform for other languages to be used so that people are not excluded from the computing evolution that is developing in the world. We will also be examining the impact of such a decision on the career paths of young students. Computing as a subject falls within the sciences but it might not require the laboratory practical facilities that you would need for a
